Since 2006, Jessica Acosta-Rubio has been at the forefront of the design culture in Miami, FL. Born and raised in Venezuela, Acosta-Rubio has a BA in Graphic Design and Marketing from Parsons the New School for Design, New York NY, and a Masters in Business Design from Domus Academy in Milano Italy.
Entrepreneurial by nature with a passion for creativity and functionality, Acosta-Rubio is recognized through many industry accolades, such as: Cooper-Hewitt National Design Triennial: Why Design Now? Best Community Concept, New York, NY, in 2010; The Red Dot Design award for Best Product, Miami, FL, 2010; Wallpaper Magazine’s Young Rising Talent Award during Salone del Mobile 2017.
Concentrating her efforts on collectively promoting and developing the design community from concept to actualization, Acosta-Rubio opened her own full-service studio in 2011. Founder and Principal at Design Pub, a boutique agency specializing in limited edition design, architecture and unique spaces, she focuses on integrating into local and international design communities, interfacing with emerging design markets, and bringing complex design concepts to life.
Through Design Pub, her work intersects the physical and conceptual, bringing to life branding, developmental, architectural, lifestyle and experiential projects. Acosta-Rubio has worked with many highly-recognized partners such as: Maison & Objet, The 1 Hotel, Kit & Ace, Lululemon, Miami Design District, WeWork, Pop-up Mob, Casacor Miami.
Previously, Acosta-Rubio joined LMNT Design Agency, and fashion designer Nazly Villamizar in Miami, FL before taking a position as Relations Manager at Miami Iron Side Studios, where she helped grow the complex from five to 80 studios as Community Manager. The unique Iron Side concept consists of mixed-use design, architecture and design studios. Acosta-Rubio worked with Carwan Gallery, Beirut, Lebanon and The Standard Spa, furthering their market presence and clientele.
In a recent project, Acosta-Rubio partnered with Jonathan Gonzalez of Office GA, conceptualizing and creating the essence of “Essential Living” by custom-building and furnishing a Miami studio apartment with the necessities of everyday life, uniting beautiful design with functionality. The resulting work embodies aestheticism, simplicity and pragmatism—a modern day solution to a real-world problem.
